Women’s Missionary Union (WMU)
President: Ms. Beverly Taylor
The concept of “Christian Women” united in a cooperative spirit of commitment to the work of God was the vision of Mrs. Barbara Morris and a few other women of The Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church. Organized in January, 1988, under the leadership of Mrs. Lili Ingram, the Women’s Auxiliary quickly became one of the most visible and active organizations in the church. Since its inception, several capable women have led the group.
The Women’s Missionary Union has as its proposed objective the Promotion of Christian Education, Fellowship, Unity, and Spirituality among the women, along with assisting the church in its work with both the congregation and the community.
In 1997, Minister John W Waters issued a directive to rename the Women’s Auxiliary as the Women’s Missionary Union. Reverend Zenovia Stafford served as the local church leader. The ministry consisted of all age groups for all women and girls of the church. Many phases of mission work have been provided by this ministry such as nursery care during each Sunday Worship Celebration, the organization of a girls’ mentoring group, and training volunteers to serve both the church and the community. There are several ways women and girls of The Greater Solid Rock Baptist Church can be of service to the church and community. We encourage all women to get involved.
